At the time of Spectro’s disposal, the company was one of the leading global providers of analysis instruments in the segment of optical emission and X-ray fluorescence spectrometry. The company mainly supplied customers in the chemical and metalworking industries.
During the investment period of the GEP funds, management successfully internationalised the company. In addition to organic growth including the opening of a distribution office in Hong Kong, international growth was accelerated through three add-on acquisitions in Germany and the United States. When Spectro was sold to listed US company AMETEK Inc. in 2005 after a seven-year holding period, it had transformed into an internationally operating technology leader.
